Elder is a large shrub or small tree that can grow up to five meters high. Both the flowers and the berries have a long tradition of culinary use, primarily for cordial and wine.
Elder used to have a great reputation as a medicinal plant end was considered in many places as something of universal medicine and was sometimes worshiped. Flowers and fruits were mainly used, but leaves and inner bark were also used.
