Equisetum is a plant genus consisting of 15–20 now living perennial cryptogamous species that occur in both temperate and tropical climates. The name “horsetail”, often used for the entire group, arose because the branched species somewhat resemble a horse’s tail. People have regularly consumed horsetails and the plant has been used in centuries in traditional medicine.
